Wish I could be home for Christmas

This is for my friend Angela, who is stranded in Washington DC and anyone else facing the prospect of Christmas away from their families.

Dappled Things

I have just had the distressing news that the Catholic literary magazine Dappled Things has had a very poor response to its fundraising campaign and may have to close if it does not receive enough financial support. Dappled Things is a unique magazine, offering a platform to Catholic writers who would otherwise be unable to get their poetry and short stories into print, but it is even more than that. I have experienced firsthand how dedicated and supportive the editorial staff at Dappled Things are, I am sure I would have given up altogether by now if it were not for the constructive criticism and encouragement I have had from this wonderful team, far beyond the call of duty. There is such a need to nurture and promote Catholic writing; we Catholics have a rich literary heritage and I long to see the emergence of a new generation of Catholic authors who will continue this proud tradition. If you care about Catholic literature, please consider donating or subscribing to Dappled Things.

Motherhood and Justice

If you are looking for an overseas aid agency to support, look no further than MaterCare. They receive no government funding but they are doing groundbreaking work saving lives in the developing world.

A Dominican friend sent me this video showing the brothers having an irreverent five minutes. Boys! Really!
