Thank you to archivists everywhere

I am not usually much of a Royal Watcher but a friend sent me the link to this video of the Queen visiting St John's college some time ago, which features (at around 32-40 seconds into the video) Her Majesty talking to the college archivist. Since this particular archivist is so modest that he may be embarrassed to find himself featuring on this blog, I will not publish his name (though I suppose it is not difficult to find out). I will however say that I am very glad he had the chance to converse with the Monarch, since archivists are usually invisible, undervalued and know more about the history of a given institution than most of the professors. They are the willing and generous givers of obscure information to students, writers and researchers, and are so very rarely thanked.
